My fellow Horizonauts and I spent the first half of last week at the University of Southampton for our annual summer school. This year the theme was web science and the focus was on big data and social media. Many new and interesting things were learnt, but perhaps more importantly, many new and interesting people were met, and many drinks were drunk.
Instead of rehashing the whole thing from my extremely poor memory, here’s the Storify version.
Even more important than that though was our guest of honor. I have a new triceratops, bought from the Oxford Natural History Museum, and therefore called Tolkien. He came with me to summer school so that I wouldn’t miss my cats too much. He ended up having quite the adventure. I have reason to believe that he will become this blog’s mascot. And as we now have some super exciting pictures of his home planet, he is a mega happy dinosaur.
Nice one, Tolkien.
