Advice on Becoming an AI Researcher?

Hello all.

I am an undergraduate student of CS in my final year. For quite some time I wanted to go down the AI researcher path, and I am currently applying to Master programs.

I have a few offers, but I am not sure what’s the best one for me. I would like some help, and in case this helps, I really enjoy Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing.

These are the offers I have so far.

  • A reputable university for a (general) CS course (which includes AI/ML stuff, but not much)

  • A university for an AI course

  • A university for a Natural Language Processing course (which includes a little ML). I like this course a lot.

  • A lower-ranked university on AI and NLP. This is also a course I really, really like.

I am afraid if I choose the specialized NLP course I will pigeonhole myself into the field and I will have trouble applying to jobs/Phd programs. On the other hand, if I go with the low-ranked university with the more general AI course I might get some doors closed.

Any advice on which one I should choose would be appreciated.
